Gati Shakti Yojana Bill – What it is And How it will help the youth

On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha passed a bill that calls for converting the National Rail and Transportation University into Gati Shakti Yojana Bill Vishwavidyalaya, an autonomous central university under Ministry of Railways control. According to Pradhan, the infrastructure and transport sectors, such as roadways, railways, shipping, and aviation, are undergoing significant transformations to become more efficient and competitive.

On the eve of launching the Gati Shakti – National Master Plan for Multimodal Connectivity in New Delhi, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced that India is embarking on a new era in governance. It is expected that the Gati Shakti platform will bring together 16 Ministries, including Railways, Roadways and the Department of Transport, to integrate planning and coordinate the implementation of infrastructure connectivity projects.

As a result of the implementation of this plan, various infrastructure schemes such as Bharatmala, Sagarmala, inland waterways, dry/land ports, UDAN, etc., will be included. In addition, to make Indian businesses more competitive by improving connectivity and making them more competitive, economic zones such as textile clusters, pharmaceutical clusters, defence corridors, electronic parks, industrial corridors, fishing clusters, and Agri zones will also be covered in the plan. 

The project will use technology extensively, including space planning tools developed by the Bhashkaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BisAG-N) in collaboration with ISRO imagery. Providing seamless and integrated connectivity across the various modes of transportation will be the key to facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services between the different methods of transport. With this project, the last mile connectivity of infrastructure will be enabled, and the travel time for people will be reduced.

As part of Pradhan’s remarks, he also stated that the Indian government is developing a new work culture in which what is promised will be delivered. Another example of this kind of work culture can be seen in Gati Shakti, he said. In addition, an ongoing tAn bill attempting to amend the Central Universities Act, 2009, enacted as part of establishing and incorporating universities for teaching and research throughout different states.

He said Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya would cater to talent shortages in the transportation sector, which is an important sector for the country’s economy and is growing. He said the institute would meet the growing demand for trained talent to meet the sector’s growth and expansion.

A statement of objects and reasons for the proposed bill states that through the development of master’s and doctoral degrees in transportation and throughout its skilling and digitisation programmes. The proposed university will contribute to reversing the brain drain, creating critical capability and preparing the nation for a world-class future in the transportation sector.

In addition, producing innovative technologies will help encourage local manufacturing and eliminate imports of expensive technology, equipment, and products. Additionally, the university will improve education, research, and skill development in a wide range of fields related to transportation, technology and management, including establishing centres both in India and abroad to provide high-quality education, research, and skill development.
